A variety of ways to motivate students’ English listening ability through E-learning has been expanding. However, without a proper approach, E-learning may bring adverse effects in the long run. The present study utilized light-weighted MP3 players as E-learning tools in order to attract learners and improve their English listening comprehension skills. The purpose of this study was to identify students’ performance model in the English listening training program in order for both teachers and students to improve their effectiveness in teaching and learning. This project established a channel for linking the various multimedia-based English listening resources on websites for students themselves to legally download contents on a regular basis. Students listened to the downloaded material offline throughout the day in a relaxing style. Twenty-eight college students volunteered to participate in this pioneer program. Quantitative and qualitative paradigms were used to assess students’ learning performance models. In addition, for assessment comparison purposes, 50 students joined each test as the control group. Three performance models were proposed and most students attributed themselves to a linear growth learning pattern. Results also showed that MP3 is an interesting and creative tool since students have more resources to self-assess their English language ability.
